Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. K. Kumar, a renowned dancer from Mysuru, has been awarded the national ‘Nritya Samvardhak Award’ by Atharva School of Fine Arts in Mumbai.
The 9th annual ‘Atharvotsav 2024’ Dance Festival organised by the institution was held on Apr. 19 and 20, 2024, at The Mysore Association in Matunga, Mumbai.
The 2-day Dance Festival showcased performances from 29 prominent dancers of national and international acclaim, performing classical Indian dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Odissi.
During the event, several Dance Gurus who have made significant contributions to the field of dance were honoured with national awards. Among them was Karnataka’s distinguished Dance Guru, Karnataka Kalashree Dr. K. Kumar, who received the national ‘Nritya Samvardhak’ award.
The award was presented by distinguished guests Prince Pratap Sinh, a descendant of the Maharashtrian royals of Thanjavur, Dr. Shailesh Shrivastava, a recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, social worker Vinayak B. Apraj and the Founders and Directors of the institution, Vishal and Shamal Pawar. Many senior Gurus were present at the award ceremony.
Following the award presentation, Dr. K. Kumar performed a Bharatanatyam recital.
