City doctor is President of Otolaryngologists Assn.

Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. M.B. Bharathi, Senior Professor, Department of ENT at JSS Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru, is elected as the President of Association of Otolaryngologists of India (AOI), Excel ENT Hospital, Mumbai.

She was sworn-in as the third woman President of the 74-year-old Association at the National Conference held at Ranchi recently.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bharathi said, ‘The world had faced COVID-19 pandemic, where ENT surgeons buckled up for the tough battle and played a major role from collecting swabs to treating patients in Flu Clinics and ICUs. They also had the huge responsibility of treating epidemic of mucormycosis within pandemic. AOI has also laid the guidelines for treatment of mucormycosis and its follow up.’

‘Globally about 360 million people and in India 63 million people are affected with hearing disability. About 60 per cent of  this can be prevented if precautions are taken and early intervention is incorporated,’ she said and recalled the work done by her team in bringing out a mobile app for hearing assessment so as to detect disability in early stages.

The Association is planning to start a research fund to help research works of doctors so as to motivate them to adopt research activities in their practice, as innovation lays a long way to develop own indigenous technology and solve many problems, she said.
