Mysuru: With an objective to conduct broad-based multidisciplinary vocational training in various industrial and technical fields, and to help students find job opportunities in the global workplace, the city will get a training institute, the Karnataka German Technical Training Institute (KGTTI), soon.
Addressing press persons at Jaladarshini Guest House here yesterday, Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC) Chairman Muralidhar Halappa said that the Corporation has submitted a proposal to Chief Minister Siddharamaiah to set up the Institute in the city and the CM has given his approval for the proposal and directed the District Administration to take measures towards the same.
Stating that at present, there are five such centres — Bengaluru, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Mangaluru and Hubballi — Halappa said “Karnataka Government and Germany have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and as per the agreement, we need to provide resources such as land and water and the German company will invest funds towards setting up the Institute. Initially, the centre will function from one of the existing buildings. The Institute would become a reality in three months.”
All the programmes and training standards are demand-oriented and are closely linked with industry. To provide international standards and hands-on training, the Institute will be equipped with extensive state-of-the-art training facilities. The Institute can train up to 3,000 candidates per year. The Institute would cater to the needs of the students from Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan and Kodagu districts.

Chief Minister Siddharamaiah will inaugurate the event at 10 am and nearly 120 companies are expected to participate. The CM will also distribute tool kits to 1,700 SC/ST ITI students on the occasion. He said that in the days to come, as many as 27,000 kits would be distributed among the students across the State.
