City Master Athletes win medals at Nationals

Master athletes from Mysuru, representing Karnataka, excelled in the recently held 44th National Masters Athletic Meet by winning two gold, 10 silver and seven bronze medals.

In the 65+ category, H.M. Sujatha won gold in shot-put and silver in discus throw; In the 60+ age category, M. Yogendra won gold medal in 2000 mtrs Steeplechase Run.

In the 35+ age category,  Vijayshankar (CAR Armed Police Constable) won silver in 110 mts hurdles and 4×100 mts relay and bronze in triple jump;

In the 35+ age category, Dr. K.S. Raghunandan won silver in 5 km walk.

In the 45+ category, N. Manju (CAR Armed Head Constable) won bronze in hammer throw; In 50+ age category, S. Amarnath (city’s  Bomb Squad Assistant Sub-Inspector) won silver in 100 mts hurdles, silver in 4×100 mts relay, bronze in 200 mts sprint; CAR ARSI S. Manjunath (fourth place in javelin throw).

Women’s Division

In the 50+ age category, Shobha Natesh won bronze in discus throw; In 60+ category, T.K. Kusuma won bronze in javelin throw; In 60+ category, D.C. Parvathi won silver medals in 4×100 mts relay and 4×400 mts relay.

In the 70+ age category, Manjamma won bronze in 100 mts sprint and shot-put and silver medals in 4×100 mts and 4×400 mts relay.

All the medal winners have been selected to represent the country at the World Masters Athletic Championship to be held in Sweden during August this year.

Mysuru District Masters Athletic Association (MDMAA) President Sumana Narasimha Murthy, Hon. Secretary P.G. Satyanarayan, Vice-Presidents C.N. Ganesh and K.N. Somashekar, Senior Joint Secretary M.P. Chandrashekar, Joint Secretary M.M. Nanaiah, EC Members B.K. Somashekar and K. Subba Shetty congratulated the medal-winners.

City Police Commissioner B. Ramesh and DCPs M. Muthuraj and S. Jahnavi too have lauded the Policemen who excelled in the Athletics Meet.
