City Police take transgenders into custody for harassing motorists

Eight beggars found begging in public, sent to rehabilitation centre

Mysore/Mysuru: City Police, who conducted a crackdown on transgenders for forcibly collecting money from motorists and public in the guise of begging, have taken 22 transgenders into custody and have registered cases against them yesterday.

Also, eight beggars, who were found begging in public places were also taken into custody and have been sent to the rehabilitation centre at Gayathripuram after advising them.

Following complaints from motorists and public about harassment from transgenders at public places and at traffic signal junctions and also, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha asking the Police Commissioner to look into the matter, City Police conducted operations at various traffic signal junctions and public places yesterday and took the transgenders into custody.

They were brought to the Police Station and legal action has been initiated against them.

DCPs M. Muthuraj and S. Jahnavi and ACPs of all Sub-Divisions guided all Inspectors and staff in the operation.
