City Railway Station escalators malfunction: A clarification

Sir,

A news was published about ‘City Railway Station escalators malfunction’ in Star of Mysore dated 16th July 2023 and here below is a rejoinder from South Western Railway (SWR),

Mysuru Division:

The Railways clarifies that both escalators in the main Station concourse were dysfunctional on 16.07.2023 from 09:30 to 09:45 hrs, causing inconvenience to passengers while the work on the new Foot Over Bridge adjacent to Platform 1 was in progress and so unavailable for use.

The Railways take utmost care in ensuring uninterrupted service of escalators or any other amenities provided to the passengers. However, it is often found that indiscriminate use of emergency stop buttons by those not familiar with the escalator facility puts a lot of pressure on the Railway service engineers to reset the machine.

The Railways appeal to the passengers not to indulge in operation of safety features themselves to avoid such inconvenience. In addition, the new steps for the Foot Over Bridge were commissioned on the very next day, that is on 17.07.2023.

The Railways would like to reassure users that, as always, every care would be taken to keep all the passenger amenities in fully functional order by putting in place robust and comprehensive preventive maintenance practices that enhance customer satisfaction through the co-operation of all stakeholders.
