City skaters excel in National Championship

The following skaters from Mysore District Rao’s Roller Skating Academy, who participated in the recently concluded 58th National Roller Skating Championships at Mohali, Punjab, have won various medals.

In this Nationals, Karnataka won the overall first place with 246 points; Tamil Nadu second with 210 points and Maharashtra third with 146 points.

The winning team was coached by Karnataka Team Coach, Ekalavya awardee and former India Team Coach K. Srikantha Rao, who is also from Mysuru.

The winners:

Janya Girish (2 silver in 5 to 7 girls category); fina Bidappa (1 bronze – 5 to 7 girls); Harsha (1 silver – 5 to 7 boys); S. Pratheeksha (1 silver, 2 bronze – 11 to 14 girls); Diya H. Rao (1 gold – 14 to 17 girls); Anush Gowda (1 gold, 2 silver – 14 to 17 boys); Omkar Yograj (1 silver – senior men above 17 years); Reethu Dinesh (1 bronze – senior women), Dr. Varsha S. Puranik (2 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze); Kalpana Kuttappa, representing Mysuru and trained by Pratheek Raja and Muniswamy Reddy, won 2 gold and 1 silver in 14 to 17 years girls category. In all, Mysuru district has won 5 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Dr. Varsha, an Ekalavya awardee, has been selected for World Speed Skating Championships to be held in Colombia in September 2021, according to K. Srikantha Rao, who is also the General Secretary of Mysore District Roller Skating Association.
