City’s Devaraja Market crying for attention

Sir,

The historic Devaraja Market building currently finds itself in a state of unsanitary disarray. The presence of extensive grass and wild shrubs growing within the structure imparts an unkempt appearance. This overgrown vegetation not only provides hiding spots for various creatures but also hinders the movement of people within the market area.

Adding to the predicament, the market is infested with rats and snakes, a consequence of the unbridled growth of grass, weeds and shrubs. These pests pose a significant health risk to both vendors and customers, carrying diseases and presenting harm if encountered unexpectedly.

Compounding the issue, the accumulation of garbage and stagnant water further contributes to the marketplace’s unsanitary conditions. The unpleasant odour emanating from this neglected waste creates discomfort for visitors, dissuading potential customers and adversely affecting businesses in the vicinity.

It is imperative for the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) authorities to promptly address these concerns. Regular cleaning and maintenance efforts should be implemented to eradicate the overgrown vegetation and eliminate the presence of pests. Simultaneously, improvements to the waste disposal system are essential to prevent garbage buildup and eradicate foul smell.

Enhancing the hygiene and overall appearance of the heritage market building can transform it into a more inviting and secure space for both vendors and customers. Such efforts would not only benefit local businesses but also attract more visitors, thereby boosting the overall economic growth of the area.
