Recognised by Indian Council of Medical Research as ICMR-Collaborating Centre of Excellence

Mysore/Mysuru: JSS Medical College’s Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CEMR) at the Department of Biochemistry has been recognised by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) as the ICMR-Collaborating Centre of Excellence (CCoE).

The ICMR recently invited institutes across the nation to submit expressions of interest for the establishment of an ICMR Collaborating Centre of Excellence (ICMR-CCoE).

The Centre for Excellence in Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CEMR) at the Department of Biochemistry, JSS Medical College, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), led by Dr. Akila Prashant, Professor and Department Head, applied for this opportunity in July 2023.

Following a rigorous selection process, the ICMR has designated 25 centres for a five-year term, recognising their outstanding scientific achievements in previous endeavours. Dr. Prashant Vishwanath, the Dean of Research at JSS AHER and Dr. Akila Prashant received the prestigious award from Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Director-General of the ICMR, on Nov. 4, at the ICMR headquarters in New Delhi.

These Collaborating Centres of Excellence (CCoEs) will actively collaborate with the ICMR to develop guidelines, undertake multi-centric projects and bolster capacity-building initiatives across the country.

Additionally, the resources available at each CCoE will be shared among all the centres, facilitating student training, research and capacity development to enrich the national research talent pool and advance medical research in India.
