City’s Thanya swims to new meet record

Mysuru: City’s S. Thanya created history by setting a new meet record at the State Senior Swimming Championship 2025-26 held at Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre in Bengaluru recently. She won a total of five medals including four golds and a silver.

The 15-year-old girl Thanya created new meet record in 200 mtrs breaststroke (timing of 2:43:13) by breaking the 2022 record (timing of 2:46:02). She also won gold medals in 400 mts medley, 200 mts medley and 1500 mts medley and silver in 100 mts breaststroke.

Thanya has also been selected to take part in the National-level Swimming Competition at Bhubaneshwar from  June 22 to 27.

Currently, Thanya is in Armenia for a 21-day swimming camp for the first ever National Talent Pool training programme. She is being coached by British swimming coach Chris Martin and Swimming Federation of India’s General Secretary Monal Chokshi. She is among 30 talented swimmers selected from across the country for the training camp.

Daughter of S.P. Shadakshari and N. Shwetha, residents of J.P. Nagar in Mysuru, Thanya is studying at Jain Academy for Sporting Excellence in Bengaluru.
