The Academy of Music, Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru, a well-known organisation in the cause of promoting performing arts, has conferred its maiden “Academy of Music Yuva Puraskar-2018 Award” on Vid. Mysuru V. Vamshidhar, city’s well-known flautist, at a glittering function held in Bengaluru recently. This is in recognition of his contribution to the field of Karnatak Classical Music.
Graded A, at the AIR and DD, Vamshidhar is the grandson and disiciple of Venu Vidwan Ganakalabhushana V. Desikachar and great grandson of Mysore Asthana Vidwan M. Venkatesha Iyengar. Presently, he is under the able tutelage of his uncle Vid. D. Balakrishna, a reputed and respected Veena Vidwan.
A child prodigy who could identify numerous ragas at the tender age of three, he is now an accomplished performer. A rare breed of talent who is firmly rooted in tradition, Vamshidhar has developed a unique blend of music soaked in devotion and melody, which is at once soothing to the soul and mind.
Blessed with such an impeccable pedigree, this grand nephew of Padma Bhushana Dr. V. Doreswamy Iyengar has performed in prestigious sabhas all over the country and abroad. His live concerts as well as the albums have been received very well by critics and connoisseurs alike. A post-graduate in Commerce, this mild mannered and down to earth artiste is also a recipient of many awards and recognitions.
