Mysore/Mysuru: Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha Charitable Trust, Mysuru, will be presenting a Karnatak classical vocal concert by Vid. Manasa Nayana at Jayanagar Rama Mandira here on Dec. 27 at 6 pm.
He will be accompanied by Vid. S.N. Narasimhan, Vid. H.L. Shivashankar Swamy and Vid. S. Manjunath on violin, mridanga and ghata respectively.
Artiste’s Profile: Manasa Nayana is a front-runner among the current generation of classical musicians hailing from Karnataka. Initially he was trained by Vid. S.K. Vasumathi, one of the pioneers of Sugama Sangeetha movement and then under Vid. Vairamangalam Lakshminarayana, Chennai.
Later the guidance he received from great masters, Dr. R.K. Srikantan and Dr. R. Vedavalli firmly established his outlook in music, besides enriching him with rich repertoire of compositions, adherence to tradition, and clear diction.
He was a recipient of several awards including, first rank in all the three music examinations of KSEEB, fist prizes in national level music competition of AIR, RTP competition of Shruthi Manjari and South Central Zone Cultural Centre. An ‘A’ graded artiste of AIR, he was also a recipient of ‘Yuva Puraskar’ from Ananya, Bengaluru and Nalinakanti Fine Arts, Chennai.
Manasa Nayana is well-known in music circles for his innovative efforts of introducing classical music to school children; inmates of old age homes, prisoners, travellers and also for his informative lec-demos.
After his post graduation from IIT, Madras, his passion for music guided his life into music from academics pursuing Ph.D at IISc, Bengaluru.
