Mysore/Mysuru: Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha Charitable Trust has organised a vocal concert by Vidu. Girija Ravishankar at 6 pm tomorrow (June 21) at Sri Rama Mandira, Jayanagar.
She will be accompanied on violin by K. Mahatee, disciple of Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy, on mridanga by senior artiste Vid. M.S. Jayaramu and on ghata by Vid. M.J. Kiran Kumar.
Artiste’s profile: Initiated into Karnatak classical music at an early age by her mother, Vidu. Sharada Ravishankar, Girija later continued her training under Vidu. Dr. R.N. Sreelatha and for the last 16 years, she has been under the tutelage of Padma Shri awardee, Sangeetha Kala Acharya, Vid. R.N. Thyagarajan.
Girija has performed in several Sabhas in India, the US, Germany and Switzerland. She has won many State and National Competitions including first prize in a Ragam Tanam Pallavi contest. Awards conferred on her include ‘Yuva Pratibha Puraskara’ from GoK. She has collaborated with artistes of other genres such as Hindustani classical, Jazz and Arabic and staying abroad, she puts forth efforts to spread Karnatak music there.
