Sir,
Recently, there was a drive to prevent/stop footpath encroachment by businesses and households in central business area of city. The Mysuru City Corporation served notice and imposed fine on defaulters.
The picture alongside shows the entire footpath of approximately 15-plus feet on either side of the road being occupied. This is common throughout the major stretch of High Tension Double Road in Vijayanagar 2nd Stage.
The impact and consequences are as follows:
1. Pedestrians have to walk on busy road risking their lives.
2. Vehicle parking has to be done on the roads since footpath is occupied.
3. Distraction of sign-boards to drivers while driving, resulting in haphazard driving and accidents.
This has been brought to the notice of the businesses and Corporation authorities but no action has been taken yet.
On behalf of the tax-paying citizens and motorists, I request the authorities to check this menace and educate the business people to develop civic sense and demonstrate citizen-friendly initiative.
