Sir,
The wheeled traffic between Mysuru and Nanjangud on NH 766 is consistently heavy. About a kilometre before Nanjangud, the road splits: The main route continues to Gundlupet, while a left deviation leads to Chamarajanagar.
Vehicles heading to Chamarajanagar inevitably encounter a Railway crossing near Apollo Circle, in front of BDO Office.
To alleviate congestion at this Railway crossing, a flyover was recently constructed over the Sujathapuram Railway Station, allowing Chamarajanagar-bound vehicles to bypass the crossing for a smoother journey.
This new flyover was expected to result in the permanent closure of the Railway Gate, facilitating uninterrupted train movement. However, for reasons unknown, the Railway Gate remains open and traffic disruptions persist as drivers continue to use shortcut routes.
The situation worsens on Fridays during the weekly fairs, where large gatherings of vegetable vendors and cattle traders cause significant traffic congestion, with vehicles queued up along the stretch.
Without a traffic signal or Police presence at this location, there is an urgent need to close this Railway Gate permanently to ensure smooth traffic flow. Through this column, I appeal to the authorities concerned to take immediate action to close the Railway Gate at Apollo Circle once and for all.
