Sir,
It is yet another sad day for the heritage city in having lost one more cinema theatre — Saraswathi Theatre. Earlier with less population, the city had the distinction of having 16 theatres and now with ever-increase in the population, this number is dwindling. What a paradox !
Cinema-lovers, especially middle class people, have always enjoyed films sitting in the theatre than watching movies through any other media — a small affordable luxury, indeed! In fact this is one of the reasons why the city had the privilege of having good number of theatres.
Instead of encouraging these theatres to remain active especially in the present covid pandemic situation, as per one version, the Government is showing a step-motherly attitude by levying Mysuru city theatre taxes 300 times more than what is levied in Bengaluru. This discrimination is quite unfair.
It is requested that our MP and MLAs step in immediately and see that not only the closed theatres are encouraged to re-open but that remaining ones do not vanish.
