Nanjangud: Owning to personal problems and mounting debts, a woman Co-operative Bank employee, along with her daughter and mother, allegedly jumped into Kapila River in a bid to commit suicide yesterday morning. While the woman and her mother drowned, her nine-year-old daughter was saved by a man who was cutting grass on the river bank.
The deceased are Rashmi (35), an employee of a Co-operative Bank at Naguvanahalli in Srirangapatna taluk and her mother Akkaiah (65). They were residing at JSS Layout in Mysuru.
It is learnt that Rashmi was facing personal problems and had taken lakhs of rupees as loan. Unable to repay loans, Rashmi yesterday brought her mother and daughter near Mallanamoole Mutt in Nanjangud, where she tied the hands of her daughter and mother with a veil and tied it to her hand and jumped into the river.
Meanwhile, a man, identified as Mahadevappa of Basavanapura, who was cutting grass for his cattle on the river bank, heard the screams of Rashmi’s daughter and immediately jumped into the river and dragged all three of them to the shore, but Rashmi had already breathed her last.
Though Akkaiah was rushed to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru, she breathed her last midway and Rashmi’s daughter is undergoing treatment at K.R. Hospital.
Nanjangud Circle Inspector Lakshmikanth Talawar, Sub-Inspector Satish and staff visited the staff.
Based on the complaint from Rashmi’s relative Jeevan, Nanjangud Rural Police have registered a case and are investigating.
