Chamarajanagar: Alleging that the Chamarajanagar District Administration had completely failed in providing relief to drought hit coconut growers, who have suffered massive losses, Kannada Chaluvali leader Vatal Nagaraj has said a massive rally will be taken out in Chamarajanagar tomorrow (May 3) in protest against administrative apathy.
Speaking to press persons here on Sunday after visiting various drought-affected villages in the taluk, Vatal Nagaraj termed the Coconut Development Board, which was set up for the promotion of coconut farming, as an useless body which lied inactive even when coconut growers were in utter distress.
Urging for filling water bodies at Kottalawadi, Yennehole, Arakalawadi, Bandigere, Doddakere, Kodimole, Doddarayapete and Chikkahole in the taluk, he demanded supply of water and fodder to Goshalas in the taluk.
Asserting that thousands of coconut trees in the District had wilted due to lack of rains, Vatal hit out at the authorities for not coming to the rescue of distraught farmers.
Vatal Nagaraj said that a massive rally will be taken out in Chamarajanagar on May 3 to press for announcement of relief to coconut growers, construction of new Chamarajeshwara Ratha and expedition of Under-Ground Drainage works at Chamarajanagar which is going on at a snail’s pace.
