Mysuru: A 5-wicket haul by Karnataka’s S. Aditya reduced the opposition Baroda to a mere score of 85 on the first day of the U-23 Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy 2017-18 that began today at Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Ground, Manasagangothri here.
Baroda’s skipper Prabhav Thaker won the toss and elected to bat. The openers M.T. Shaikh and Prabhav Thaker started the innings cautiously but soon fell prey to an exceptional display of bowling from Karnataka.
S. Aditya continuously kept asking questions to the batsmen as they struggled to read his deliveries. He returned with figures of 5-21 in 12.1 overs.
The pacer Aditya Somanna rattled through Baroda’s batting order, as wickets kept tumbling for Baroda. He was well supported by a tight and a brilliant spell of bowling from left arm spinner Shubhang Hegde. Both the bowlers ensured that they kept the opposition under constant pressure and restricted them for a mere 85 in 39.1 overs.
During his spell of 13 overs, Shubhang scalped three wickets for 18 runs. P.A. Kumar was the only batsman who showed some resistance as he managed to score 20 runs and eventually succumbed to Hegde’s off-cutter. In reply, Karnataka’s captain Abhishek Reddy fell cheaply as Karnataka were 20 for one in 8 overs when we went to the press.
