Colourful procession marks Vishwakarma Jayanti

Mysuru: Marking Vishwakarma Jayanti-2017, a colourful procession was taken out by over 1,000 members of the community in city this morning.

The procession commenced from Kalikamba Kamateshwara Temple on Irwin Road and passed through Ashoka Road, Silver Jubilee Clock Tower, Gandhi Square, Devaraj Urs Road, JLB Road and Hunsur Road before culminating at Kalamandira where a stage programme was held.

The entire event is being held under the aegis of District Administration, Department of Kannada and Culture and District Vishwakarma Jayanthotsava Samithi.

The procession was flagged off by MLC G. Raghu Achar. A divine portrait of Vishwakarma community was carried on a silver chariot mounted on a vehicle. In attendance were 200 traditionally dressed women of the community carrying Kumbha Kalashas on their heads.

An array of folk troupes provided glamour and glitter for the procession. Actress Bhavya and leaders of Vishwakarma community were present.
