Commonwealth Chess Championship 2019: Delhi’s GM Abhijeet Gupta wins title

Delhi’s Grand Master (GM) Abhijeet Gupta won the title in the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2019 (Open) in Delhi by securing 7.5 points from nine rounds on the concluding day of the Championship yesterday.

GM C. Aravindh (TN), GM Swapnil S. Dhopade, GM S.L. Narayanan tied with 7 points each and secured the second, third and fourth places respectively based on their progressive-tied break scores. G.M. Deepan Chakravarthy with 6.5 points finished secured the fifth place.

GM M.S. Thejkumar drew his final ninth round with L.R.Srihari of Tamil Nadu and secured 5.5 points. He finished 24th in the final rankings. In the eighth round, he beat Bihar’s Kumar Gaurav.
