‘Compiling a dictionary is like swimming in a sea’

Kannada-Kannada-English dictionary released

Mysuru, Sept.1 (RKB&US)- Chethana Book House had organised a programme at Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashrama on Ooty Road here this morning for the release of the Kannada-Kannada-English dictionary compiled by Littérateurs Dr. C.P. Krishnakumar (CPK) and Dr. B.G. Ramesh.

Inaugurating the programme Junior pontiff of the Ashrama Sri Vijayananda Theertha Swamiji contended that compiling a dictionary is like swimming in sea which is very tough. He said that the number of words keep on increasing regularly. He lauded the efforts of Dr. CPK and Dr. Ramesh and appreciated the inclusion of a few Sanskrit and old Kannada words.

He opined that Children should be encouraged to read books and refer dictionaries to gain knowledge and improve vocabulary.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ramesh said that the dictionary with 1,200 pages and priced at Rs.970 would be very beneficial for students and translators. He further said that old Kannada and poetic words too have been included and added that the dictionary covers about one lakh words giving synonyms also. He asked people to refer dictionaries instead of always seeking help from Google.

Writer Dr. Kabbinale Vasanth Bharadwaj released the dictionary. Writer Dr. K. Bhyrava Murthy, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna Journalist S. Prakash Babu, Chethana Book House proprietor Nataraj Chaudhary and others were present.
