Mysuru: Complaints on caste abuse, atrocities, land encroachment, illegal liquor trade etc., marked the District-level Dalits meeting with the Police at the SP Office in Nazarbad here yesterday.
Speaking at the meeting, DSS leader Ningaraju Malladi alleged that Dalits were denied entry to barber shop, temple and hotel at Gavadagere in Hunsur Taluk.
As such, the authorities should summon the barber, hotel owner and the temple priest and take them to task for their discriminating attitude, he said.
District DSS Convenor Mallesh alleged that atrocities against Dalits have continued and the District Administration had failed to take action against the culprits.
Another DSS leader from K.R. Nagar Diwakar alleged that sand mafia was very much active in K.R. Nagar Taluk and the Police Department was doing very little to curb it.
Several other Dalit leaders who also spoke, came up with complaints on illegal sand mining, encroachment of Dalit lands and burial grounds and Police inaction against those perpetrating atrocities against Dalits.
SP Ravi D. Channannavar said that most of the complaints were on caste abuse, land disputes and attacks on women.
He assured the meeting that the Department would take action as per law against the accused if there was enough evidence against them.
Additional SP N. Rudramuni, Hunsur Sub-Division ASP Harish Pandey and other Police officials were present.
