Mysore/Mysuru: Adding to the increasing cases of online fraud, a youth lost Rs. 10.57 lakh for the lure of pocketing a hefty commission upon investment for the completion of a task.
B.S. Padmanabha, aged 28 and a Computer Centre worker, resident of SRS Colony, Hootagalli, is the victim.
He received a message on Telegram App about a part time job offer. When he responded to the offer, he was directed towards a website for completing the registration process and was made to believe that he would be earning double in the form of commission for completing a task.
Initially, Padmanabha invested Rs. 10,000 and got Rs. 20,535 in return including the commission, after completing a task. He later invested Rs. 50,023 and received Rs. 72,723 including the commission, thus strengthening his belief in the business.
Buoyed Padmanabha invested Rs. 10,57,476 and subsequently made a bid to withdraw his investment, but in vain. He was told to deposit Rs. 5.4 lakh to take back his investment along with commission. By this time, he learnt to have been cheated.
Padmanabha has lodged a complaint at Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police Station in the city.
