Bengaluru: BJP Yuva Morcha National President and MP Tejasvi Surya has issued a stern warning that Hindu Temples and Mutts may be handed over to the Waqf Board if the public continues to be misled by the Congress party’s false promises.
Speaking to reporters, Surya stated here recently, “If people persist in voting for the Congress party in exchange for freebies and poll guarantees, all our Temples, homes, and Mutts, including revered sites like Dharmasthala and Sringeri Sharada Peetha, could end up with the Waqf Board.”
He pointed out that the Waqf Board has already claimed over 50,000 acres of land in Karnataka, raising concerns about the potential transfer of farmers’ lands to the Board.
Surya revealed that he has raised this issue with the Chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) and requested a visit to Hubballi and Bengaluru to gather petitions from farmers. “The chairperson is expected to visit the State on Nov. 6 or 7,” he said.
Waqf Adalat on CM’s directive
Surya further alleged that Waqf Adalats are being conducted under the directives of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, questioning the legal basis for these proceedings.
“What law permits the establishment of Waqf Adalats? What is their constitutional standing? The Waqf Adalat is an unconstitutional invention of the Congress party,” he declared. He emphasised that the BJP will persist in its protests until the Congress halts these Adalats.
The Central Government has initiated a Joint Parliamentary Committee to amend the Waqf Act and Surya noted that while countries like Egypt and Singapore have banned the Waqf, the BJP does not seek a ban or the confiscation of Waqf lands.
“Our demand is clear. Let the Waqf retain the land that rightfully belongs to it and refrain from claiming our lands,” he asserted.
