Mysuru: Two persons, giving fake medicines to a Parkinson’s disease patient in city and cheating him to the tune of Rs.1.5 lakh has come to light lately.
While the patient, who was cheated, is Rajegowda of Vijayanagar, the conmen who allegedly cheated him are Guru and Manoj Kumar.
The incident: A few days ago, when Rajegowda was walking near his house, a bike rider stopped and offered a drop besides introducing him as Guru.
Guru, who noticed tremors in Rajegowda’s hands, asked Rajegowda about it to which he (Rajegowda) told Guru that he has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease since many days.
Guru then told Rajegowda that his father too was suffering from the same disease and he had got him treated at an Ayurveda Hospital in K.R. Mohalla and now his father was completely cured of the disease besides asking Rajegowda to get himself treated at the same hospital.
Believing Guru, Rajegowda asked him to take him to the hospital. Guru, who took Rajegowda to the AYURVEDA Hospital, introduced him to one Manoj Kumar there. Manoj, who took the details of the disease from Rajegowda, told him that the medicines would cost him Rs.1.5 lakh besides assuring him that he would be cured of the disease in 15 days.
Believing Manoj, Rajegowda gave Rs.80,000 through Guru and told Manoj that he would give the balance amount the next day. Manoj then gave Rajegowda two types of medicines telling him that one type of medicine cost Rs.8,500 per gram and the other Rs.9,500 a gram, to which two litres of coconut oil has to be mixed and asked Rajegowda to apply the mixture on his body and hands.
Rajegowda then took Guru to a bank and gave a cheque (No.234752) for the balance amount in the name of one Raman N. Pandit which was transferred from his account on Sept.29, 2018.
After using the medicines for a few days and finding no effective results from it, Rajegowda gave a call to the mobile number on the visiting card only to receive the message that the phone was switched off.
Rajegowda then went to the place where Guru had taken him only to find that it was a rented place. On enquiring, the owner of the house, Rajegowda came to know that Manoj had taken the house on rent for two months and after the completion of the period, he had vacated the place.
Rajegowda, who came to know that he was cheated, has lodged a complaint at K.R. Police Station in this regard.
