Mysuru: Conmen in the guise of CBI officials threatened a youth who was on his bike and fled with his mobile phones and ATM card at V.V. Puram on Thursday night. The youth is Ponnappa, a resident of Vijayanagar.
Ponnappa, who had been to Sub-Urban Bus Stand to drop a relative, was proceeding towards his home at about 1 am when two persons on a bike followed him and asked him to stop his bike near Rajalakshmi Apartments in V.V. Puram 10th Cross. But when Ponnappa did not stop his bike, the miscreants overtook him and stopped Ponnappa’s bike.
They then told Ponnappa that they were CBI officials and they had got information that he (Ponnappa) was smuggling ganja and told him that they wanted to check his bike. They then took his mobile phones and forcibly took his ATM Card and demanded Ponnappa to withdraw cash.
Doubting their behaviour, Ponnappa asked them to which Police Station they belong to. Alerted by Ponnappa’s question, the conmen told him not to follow them and took his bike keys and fled from the spot.
V.V. Puram Police have registered a case are investigating. Public are advised not to venture out alone during late night hours and should be very careful if it is inevitable to go out. They are urged to contact Police Control Room on 100 or Ph: 0821-2418339, if they find anyone moving around in a suspicious manner.
