Construction workers stage protest, urge fulfilment of demands

Mysore/Mysuru: The workers of Karnataka State Building and other Construction Workers Federation (CWFI), affiliated to CITU, staged a protest on Thursday demanding that only those workers who are registered for the last 8-10 years be given subsidy to build houses.

The protesters who assembled in front of Assistant Labour Commissioner’s Office at Kuvempunagar also demanded that the beneficiaries of Slum Clearance Board and other programmes should not be included in Construction Workers Welfare Board. An amount of Rs. 76 crore deposited already to Slum Clearance Board should be withdrawn immediately, they said.

“Members should be paid subsidy only after 5 years of getting membership. The present CGH based medical reimbursement should be scrapped and instead State Government’s Arogya Sanjeevini-2022 Scheme should be given as a cashless service,” they urged.

CITU District President N.K.Balaji, General Secretary B.Jayaram, leaders Basavaraju, Ashok, Eshwar, Nagesh and others participated in the protest.
