Mysore/Mysuru: Following a contempt of Court ruling, the furniture of Siddartha Sports Club located at Siddarthanagar in the city was seized on Thursday. This action was taken after the Club’s President and Secretary failed to comply with the Court order to reinstate the membership of Chandan, a resident of Siddarthanagar.
Chandan, upon the non-restoration of his Club membership, filed an appeal with the Court, alleging contempt of Court. After hearing the appeal, the Court ordered the seizure of movable assets belonging to the Club. This order was executed by seizing the furniture in the presence of the Court Amin.
Addressing the media, Chandan stated, “I have been a member of the Club since 2008. When I requested information regarding the Club’s transactions for the financial year 2016-17, the authorities attempted to amend the by-laws after the Executive Committee’s term had expired. I obtained information from the District Registrar of the Cooperative Department and shared it with fellow members, indicating that the term of the Executive Committee was limited to one year. As a result, my Club membership was suspended. Despite the Court granting an interim stay on the suspension order, the Club authorities persisted with their decision to suspend me, citing my failure to provide a written undertaking before the Disciplinary Committee.”
Subsequently, a formal appeal was filed with the Court, which found fault with the Club authorities’ decision to suspend Chandan’s membership. However, Chandan continued to be barred from entering the Club premises. He appealed to the Court to enforce its order against the Club, leading to the seizure of furniture by Court authorities.
S. Ashok, Secretary of Siddartha Sports Club, responded, stating, “Chandan’s membership was suspended due to a violation of by-laws. Following inquiry, he was subsequently sacked from membership and a related case is currently pending in Court. Further action will be taken after consulting with our legal counsel.”
