Mysore/Mysuru: With the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) introducing direct payment of salaries to Contract Pourakarmikas, the MCC permanent and contractual Pourakarmikas Association has thanked opposition leader and former Chief Minister Siddharamaiah and former city Mayor M. Narayana for their help in getting the facility.
Addressing a press meet here on Monday, Association Vice-President Shivanna alleged that Contractors, who hired Pourakarmikas were paying less than that fixed by the Government and also there was undue delay in the payment of salaries. The association led by former Mayor Narayana had waged a long battle demanding direct payment of salaries for Pourakarmikas and prevailed upon the then Chief Minister Siddharamaiah to fulfil their demand. Now, following years of continuous struggle, the MCC, yielding to the demand, has introduced direct payment of salaries to the bank accounts of Pourakarmikas, he said.
Pointing out that 724 Pourakarmikas will benefit from direct payment, Shivanna urged the MCC and the District administration to cover 824 additional Pourakarmikas too under the Direct Payment scheme. He also wanted the Government to extend direct payment facility in all Urban Local Bodies of the State.
Pourakarmika Association’s Empowered Committee Secretary T. Srinivas, who has bagged Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Fellowship Award given by Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Academy, was honoured on the occasion.
Safai Karmachari Commission member M.V. Venkatesh, Association office-bearers Mohankumar (Swamy), N. Durganna, K. Nanjappa, Shankarappa and others were present.
