Mysuru: A City Corporator’s daughter, who was married just seven months ago to a Tamil Nadu-based techie working in Bengaluru, committed suicide by hanging herself at her husband’s house at HSR Layout 35th Cross in Bengaluru yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Vanitha (26), daughter of Ward No. 36 Corporator D. Nagabhushan, who is the brother of MUDA Chairman D. Dhruvakumar. Vanitha committed suicide at about 6 pm yesterday and the incident came to light at about 8 pm, when her husband Vasanth Kumar came home from work.
HSR Layout Police conducted the mahazar and found a four-page death note written by the deceased before taking the extreme step. Though she was rushed to St. John’s Hospital, the doctors there declared her ‘brought dead’ and the body was shifted to the hospital’s mortuary for post-mortem.
According to the Police, the death note stated that Vanitha was being frequently harassed for dowry by her mother-in-law Shrimathi, which forced Vanitha to take the extreme step. The death note has also revealed that Vanitha was denied food and had to sleep on empty stomach many times.
Based on the contents of the death note, HSR Layout Police took Vanitha’s husband Vasanth Kumar and her mother-in-law Shrimathi into custody for interrogation.
Vasanth Kumar has been released now but the Police are still questioning Shrimathi. In her death note, Vanitha has stated that her mother-in-law used to torment her without her husband’s knowledge and in his absence.
Meanwhile, Vanitha’s parents and relatives have rushed to Bengaluru. Sources said that post-mortem was conducted at St. John’s Hospital in Bengaluru this morning and the body is being brought to Mysuru and the last rites will be performed here.
Vanitha wedded Vasanth Kumar seven months ago at a grand marriage ceremony held at a convention hall at Hebbal in city, which was attended by many political leaders.
