Gundlupet, Oct. 26 – A couple from Kerala was killed on the spot while three persons including a three-year-old boy sustained serious injuries when their car collided head-on with a tipper vehicle near Madapatna Gate in Gundlupet taluk on NH-766 yesterday.
The deceased couple have been identified as Basheer (53) and his wife Nashima (43), residents of Madaki Male in Wayanad in Kerala, while the seriously injured are their relatives, 32-year-old Mohammed Rafi, 28-year-old Jashira and the deceased couple’s three-year-old son Azeem. The injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Mysuru. It is learnt that the couple was heading home town, after returning from Malaysia trip.
The couple, who came to Bengaluru from Malaysia on Friday midnight, reached Mysuru in a bus from when they were travelling in their car (KL-12-J-4141) towards Kerala. As the vehicle neared Madapatna Gate, the car allegedly collided head-on with tipper (KL-32-R-6-77), killing the couple on the spot and leaving three others seriously injured. The driver of the tipper fled from the spot.
Basheer who was driving the car was smashed beyond recognition, while Nashima, who was seated next to him, was thrown out of the car due to the impact.
Begur Police, who reached the spot, shifted the injured to a private hospital in Mysuru. The bodies were shifted to hospital for post-mortem. The Police cleared the vehicles from the road and made way for traffic.
