Mysuru: In huge embarrassment for PWD and Mysuru District Minister, Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, the Third Additional District and Sessions Court yesterday passed an order directing the authorities concerned to name his son, Sunil Bose as accused number 1 in a graft case.
Sunil Bose is accused in the case of aiding and abetting Mines and Geology Department Officials to take bribe in an illegal sand transportation case. The Court also ordered Sunil Bose to be present before it on September 26.
The order has come as a jolt for Dr. Mahadevappa who is preparing to field his son as a candidate in the 2018 Assembly elections.
The case pertains to one Basavaraj, who was given a Government tender for sand mining in T. Narasipur taluk (Dr. Mahadevappa’s constituency). He later filed a Lokayukta case against an officer of Department of Mines and Geology, Alphonse, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh for permitting the transport of sand.
“During the Lokayukta raid on March 27, 2010, Alphonse alleged that he had given the money to Sunil Bose as bribe for the permit. But the Lokayukta Police dropped Sunil Bose’s name from the chargesheet,” said Basavaraj, who filed a petition under section 191 of the Cr.PC in Court to include the names of Sunil Bose and Raju as accused in the chargesheet before the Third Additional District and Sessions Court in Mysuru. The Court ordered the inclusion of Bose’s name in the chargesheet along with other accused Raju and Alphonse.
Sunil Bose, however, had approached High Court questioning the order. The High Court had quashed the lower Court order but directed to continue with the proceedings. As the Session Court found strong evidence against Bose, it made him an accused as he had threatened the witnesses.
