Mysuru: The City’s 5th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of murdering his wife.

The man, who was sentenced, is Lavakumar, a resident of Attiguppe village in Hunsur taluk.

Lavakumar had married Pankaja of K.R. Nagar 14 years ago and the couple lived a happy life for a few days. Later, Lavakumar, suspecting his wife’s character, began to harass her mentally and physically, following which a case was registered at the Women’s Police Station in Mysuru on May 20, 2021. Later, elders intervened and advised the couple, following which the couple took a house on rent at Yelwal and began to reside there.

On Aug. 28, 2021, Lavakumar’s father Krishnegowda passed away at Attiguppe village following which the couple went to the village. After the last rites, Lavakumar, his mother and wife Pankaja slept in the hall. At about 10.30 pm, Lavakumar, who got angry on Pankaja as she had spoken bad about her father, went to the cow shed, brought a machete and hacked Pankaja to death.

The then Hunsur Rural Inspector Ravikumar, who had registered a case, conducted an investigation and submitted a chargesheet to the Court.

Judge Gururaj Somakkalavar, who heard the arguments from both sides, held Lavakumar guilty of the crime and sentenced him to life imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 7,000.
