Sir,
The news of a cow attack on two women walkers at Kukkarahalli Lake makes a disturbing read (SOM dated June 9). But, it was an incident or accident waiting to happen, given the apathy of the authorities concerned and the utter negligence of the security personnel deployed at the Lake who allow all kinds of undesirable practices to take place and conveniently wink at it.
A few years back even I had the horrific experience of being charged by a bull at Kukkarahalli Lake while taking a morning walk. Indeed, stray cattle menace is a commonplace at Kukkarahalli Lake.
But that is not the only nuisance morning walkers are exposed to. One could also see motorcyclists having a free run who get there to cut and collect green grass from around the Lake and transport it to be used as fodder for livestock. It became so intolerable a nuisance for morning walkers that I was constrained to approach Police officials at Jayalakshmipuram Police Station to book the culprits and put an end to the nuisance.
One hopes the authorities concerned — the Mysore University officials, the civic authorities and, of course, the Police authorities — come together and take effective measures to put an end to the stray cattle menace in the interest of the safety of the morning walkers and the tax-paying public.
