Cricket: England wins first Test

England won the first Test against India, defeating the hosts by 227 runs on the fifth and final day at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai today.

Resuming its overnight score of 39 for one, still needing 381 runs to win, India crashed to 192 half-an-hour before tea-break on the final day, with Captain Virat Kohli being the top scorer with 72. For England, Jack Leach was the most successful bowler with figures of 4 for 76, followed by James Anderson 3 for 17, while Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes and Dominic Bess bagged a wicket each.

Second Test

The second Test between the two countries will be held at the same venue (M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai) from Feb. 13 to 17.
