Srirangapatna: A huge crocodile was spotted on the banks of Virija Canal at Palahalli near Srirangaptna on Thursday night, causing a sense of fear among the villagers. A tourist, who first spotted the huge croc, captured a video of it which is doing rounds on social media.
As Palahalli is very close to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, which houses crocodiles in large numbers, it is common for the public to spot the reptiles in places surrounding the bird sanctuary.
It is learnt that crocodiles come out of the river in search of food, especially when the level of water in River Cauvery depletes.
Following the spotting of the croc, Forest Department staff have placed a cage to capture it.
