Periyapatna: In yet another calamity, crops grown in over 50 acres of land were destroyed, when an overflowing ground-level water tank bund breached in the taluk late on Tuesday night.
Following heavy rains that lashed the taluk on Tuesday, Hunsekatte and Somanakatte water bodies at Benagalu village overflowed and breached, with water gusting into the adjacent agricultural fields, destroying crops such as paddy, banana, coconut, maize etc., grown in over 50 acres belonging to different persons.
With the tank breaching, the tank bund, which served as a road link between Benagalu and Narayanapura has been cut off, thus causing a lot of inconvenience to residents of both the villages. ZP Member V. Rajendra and ZP Engineers, who visited the spot, assured of preparing an estimate for repair of the breached water body and thus facilitate movement of villagers.
