Crores of rupees in Bank account: Miscreant threatens doctor of CBI investigation, extorts Rs. 45 lakh

Mysuru: A miscreant, who called a city doctor over the phone, informed him that he (doctor) had crores of rupees in his Bank account, threatened him with CBI investigation and has extorted Rs. 45 lakh  from the doctor.

The doctor, who was cheated is Dr. Suresh (name changed), a resident of J.P. Nagar in city.

On Sept. 12, Dr. Suresh received a call on his mobile phone and the caller, who identified himself from the Telecom Department, informed him that someone had purchased a SIM card using his Aadhaar Card and had also opened a Bank account in Canara Bank. The new Bank account had crores of rupees in it and an FIR has been registered besides stating that the CBI would investigate into it.

Shocked that someone had misused his Aadhaar Card, Dr. Suresh continued his conversation with the miscreant during which the miscreant obtained the Aadhaar number of the doctor to cross examine and later got Rs. 45 lakh transferred from Dr. Suresh to close the case and went unreachable. Realising that he has been cheated, Dr. Suresh lodged a complaint and the CEN Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
