Mysuru: Maharani’s Science College had organised a function at its premises on JLB Road here yesterday to launch various facilities worth Rs. 40 lakh provided by Bank Note Paper Mill India Private Limited (BNPMIPL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The said amount has been utilised to provide 132 computers to various Departments in the College together with five sanitary pad vending machines and five incinerators.
Inaugurating the new facilities, BNPMIPL, Mysuru, Deputy Manager S. Sunder Raj opined that computer knowledge is essential for its wide application in every sector. He advised the students to make best use of the facilities to gain knowledge and shape their future career.
Speaking as the chief guest, District Industries Centre (DIC), Mysuru, Joint Director D.K. Lingaraju contended that any company with an annual turn over of Rs.5 crore should earmark 2% of the profit for CSR.
He disclosed that Maharashtra stood first in the country for CSR funding with Rs.8,499 crore followed by Karnataka in the second place with Rs.3,044 crore.
He said that ever since DIC was authorised to monitor the allocation of CSR fund to needy recipients with the DC remaining as the Governing Head, the progress is good. He further said that for the last three years the CSR allocation has been Rs.19 crore, Rs.23 crore and Rs.29 crore with a target of Rs. 44.6 crore for the current 4th year which qualifies a good positive growth. He assured the College of further CSR support from other companies shortly.
Department of Collegiate Education, Regional Office Joint Director R. Mugeshappa, CSR Convenor Dr. Shivalingaiah, College Principal S.B. Shivappa Shanthappanavar and others were present on the occasion.
