Mysuru: The Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CSRTI), Central Silk Board (CSB), Ministry of Textiles, Governemt of India, Mysuru and the Department of Sericulture, Government of Karnataka, Bengaluru, are jointly organising a Sericulture Farmers’ Workshop with the theme “Sericulture Enterprise for farmers’ prosperity” at Shri Hasanamba Kalakshetra, Salagame Road, Hassan on Mar.6.
During the workshop an exhibition of new research breakthrough in the field of mulberry cultivation and silkworm rearing will be demonstrated and new products based on the technologies developed by CSRTI for enhancement of fertility in soil and control of pests and diseases of mulberry and control of silkworm diseases will be made available for sale through the stalls that will be set up by the manufacturers and dealers of various products.
Around 1,500 sericulturists from all over Karnataka are attending the workshop. A brainstorming Technical Session will be conducted to bring the CSB scientists and farmers together for interaction on a host of subjects relating to sericulture and silk industry.
An award presentation ceremony will be held to felicitate progressive farmers who have excelled in their field such as mulberry cultivation, silkworm rearing and post cocoon activities.
“Rot-Fix”, a commercialised product developed by CSRTI for control of root-rot disease of mulberry and “Ankur”, a commercial product to increase the soil fertility and health, will be released on the occasion.
H.D. Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister, will inaugurate the workshop and commercial release of Mulberry varieties — G4 and AGB-8. A. Manju, Minister for Animal Husbandry and Sericulture, will inaugurate the Sericulture Exhibition and release Thermo-tolerant Silkworm Hybrid N21 x N56.
K.M. Hanumantharayappa, Chairman, CSB, will release the Sericultural Technical Booklets. H.S. Prakash, MLA, will preside and release “Rot-Fix”. Rajit Ranjan Okhandiar, Member-Secretary, CSB, will release “Sex Pheromone Traps for Uzifly”. K.S. Manjunath, Commissioner for Sericulture Development and the Director of Sericulture, will release “Ankur” for soil fertility and health.
