Mysore/Mysuru: The Indian Institute of Educational Theatre (IIET), Mysuru, is organising an international cultural exchange programme in collaboration with the Theatre Action Group (TAG), Jaffna, Sri Lanka, tomorrow (Jan. 19) at 5 pm at the Hardwicke School premises on JLB Road in Mysuru.
This programme aims to promote artistic dialogue and mutual learning between theatre practitioners from India and Sri Lanka, highlighting theatre as a medium for cultural understanding, education and social reflection. It brings together two theatre groups dedicated to community engagement and meaningful artistic practice.
A major highlight of the event will be ‘Manteswamy Kavya,’ presented by Dr. Gururaj and his team, showcasing Karnataka’s rich folk and narrative traditions through a blend of storytelling, music and theatrical performance.
The TAG team from Jaffna will present a theatre demonstration reflecting their unique performance practices rooted in the cultural and social realities of Sri Lanka’s northern region. Their presentation will offer audiences valuable insights into alternative theatre methodologies and cross-cultural perspectives.
The programme will also feature an interactive session, allowing theatre practitioners, students, educators and audiences to engage directly with both teams, exchange ideas and explore possibilities for future collaboration.
Theatre Action Group (TAG), a Tamil theatre organisation founded in the mid-1980s by Dr. K. Sithamparanathan, works for progressive social change through theatre. Actively engaged in community performances, education and intercultural exchanges, TAG strengthens its mission through sustained practice and cultural collaboration across Sri Lanka and South India.
IIET invites theatre artistes, students, educators and the general public to attend this enriching cultural evening that celebrates diversity, shared heritage and the unifying power of theatre.
