World Clubfoot Day observed at MMC&RI
Mysuru: Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) Dean Dr. B. Krishnamurthy said that those children suffering from clubfoot (a deformed foot, which is twisted so that the sole cannot be placed flat on the ground) can be cured, if proper treatment is given at the right time.
He was speaking at the ‘World Clubfoot Day-2017,’ organised jointly by the MMC&RI Joints and Bone Department and Cure India Clubfoot at the MMC&RI Platinum Jubilee auditorium in J.K. Grounds here on Monday and said those with clubfoot should get therapy for about four years. Only then it can be cured 99 percent of the time without surgery.
If the problem is a little more, then a minor surgery could help. Otherwise, until the end, they have to suffer from this problem, he said. Every year June 3 is being celebrated as ‘World Clubfoot Day.’ Hence, we are celebrating it now in our College. This problem is found only in two children out of 1,000. Hence, the parents should consult the doctors at the right time and get proper treatment done, said Dr. Krishnamurthy.
MMC&RI Joints and Bone Department Head Dr. Neelana Gowda V. Police Patil speaking, said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) entered between MMC&RI and Cure India Clubfoot, nearly 140 to 150 children are given free material. Likewise, this year material has been distributed to 145 children.
