Cycle jatha marks Intl. Democracy Day

Mysore/Mysuru: Hundreds of students, aged above 14 years, took part in the cycle jatha jointly organised by the District Administration, Mysuru Zilla Panchayat (ZP) and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) as part of International Day of Democracy, here this morning.

This year, the State Government has announced ‘My Vote My Right’ as the theme for Democracy Day celebrations.

The cycle jatha was flagged off from Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises in Siddarthanagar by MLC C.N. Manjegowda and DC G. Lakshmikanth Reddy.

The 7K cycle jatha passed through Nazarbad Main Road, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Circle (Hardinge Circle), Albert Victor Road, K.R. Circle, JLB Road, Railway Station, Irwin Road and Ashoka Road, before culminating at the Town Hall premises after which the dignitaries garlanded the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, chief architect of the Indian Constitution.

ZP CEO S. Ukesh Kumar, Department of Social Welfare Joint Director Rangegowda and others were present.

Earlier in the day, the District Administration had flagged off a bike rally from Mysuru to Bengaluru in which about 15 bikers took part. On reaching Bengaluru, the participants will take part in the State-level programme to be held at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha later in the day.

The District Administration will also be conducting various competitions as part of the celebrations for students and general public from Sept. 15 to 26. Prize distribution event will be held on Nov. 26 (Constitution Day).
