Several retro-reflective bollards along the cycle track on Vishwamanava Double Road, located 100 metres from Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Circle in city, have been vandalised. The incident occurred right before a tender coconut stall in the vicinity.
Until yesterday, the cycle track was in good condition. However, today it was discovered that the retro-reflective bollards meant to enhance safety for cyclists during night-time journeys have been ripped apart. Notably, there seems to be no legitimate reason for an opening between the tracks at this particular spot.
These reflective devices, strategically positioned on the road surface and along the side of the roadway, play a crucial role in clearly defining the road’s alignment and outlining the designated path for cyclists. The destruction of these safety features poses a threat to the well-being of cyclists and indicates a deliberate act of vandalism by miscreants.
It is worth noting that the dedicated cycle paths were designed by the Mysuru City Corporation to provide a safer environment for cyclists during their rides, particularly at night. Unfortunately, even before their intended use, these paths have become preferred parking spaces for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
This misuse has led to obstructions, compromising the safety of cyclists and raising significant concerns.
Immediate action is required to address the vandalism to ensure the continued safety of cyclists.
Additionally, measures should be taken to discourage unauthorised parking on these paths.
