Cyclists speed through city in thrilling State-level race

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru witnessed an impressive display of grit and endurance yesterday as the spirit of Dasara came alive with a State-level cycling competition, organised as part of the Dasara Sports Festival.

Cyclists from across Karnataka raced along the scenic Outer Ring Road stretch near Uttanahalli, cheered on by enthusiastic spectators who lined the route. The event seamlessly blended the grandeur of Dasara with the thrill of competitive sports.

The race route spanned 10 km per lap, starting at Uttanahalli Junction and extending to T. Narasipur Road Junction near Vaidyara Bhavana.

In the men’s category, Srinivas Rajput from the Belagavi Division pedalled his way to gold, completing the 70 km race (seven laps) in a remarkable 1 hour 56 minutes.

Following him was Yalagurappa I. Gaddi, who took silver with a timing of 2 hours, 23 minutes and 61 seconds, while Raju Sonnada clinched bronze at 2 hours, 24 minutes. Interestingly, all three medalists hailed from the Belagavi Division.

The women’s race covered 30 km (three laps), where Gleonna Angel D’Souza from Mysuru Division emerged as the champion, clocking 1 hour, 4 minutes and 35 seconds to claim                    the gold.

Keerthi Nayak from Belagavi Division finished a fraction of a second later at 1 hour, 4 minutes and 36 seconds to secure silver, while Kiana Baruah of Bengaluru Urban took bronze with a close 1 hour, 4 minutes and 38 seconds.

A total of 45 men and 37 women cyclists from districts across Karnataka participated, making the event a vibrant celebration of athleticism, competitive spirit, and regional pride.
