Mysuru, Nov. 15 (SPN&VNS)- The District Armed Reserve (DAR) team emerged Overall Champions at the 3-day Mysuru District Police Annual Sports Meet held at DAR Grounds in Jyothinagar here yesterday.
DAR team scored a total of 64 points performing well in both individual and group events.
Meanwhile, G.G. Raghunandan of DAR won the Individual Championship in the men’s category winning gold in 100mts sprint, 400 mts run, 800 mts run, long jump and high jump.
Raghunandan has also been selected to represent the country at the World Masters Athletics Championship to be held in Daegu in South Korea next year. Earlier, taking part in the 23rd Asian Masters Athletics held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai recently, had won gold medals in 400 mts and 800 mts run and silver medal in 200 mts sprint.
In the women’s category, Deepa Palke of Kavalande Police Station won the Individual Championship winning gold medals in 100 mts sprint, 200 mts sprint and long jump and silver in high jump.
In the 4×100 mts relay, DAR emerged winners and were followed by Mysuru Rural Sub-Division and District Special Bureau in second and third place respectively. In the 4×400 relay, DAR won the gold medal, Nanjangud Sub-Division silver and Mysuru Sub-Division third.
In the group events, Hunsur Sub-Division emerged victorious in tug-of-war and volleyball, Mysuru Rural Division in kabaddi and in cricket SP team emerged victorious followed by Additional SP team in second place.
Speaking at the valedictory ceremony, DIGP (Southern Range), Dr. M.B. Boralingaiah said that fitness was given utmost prominence in the Police Department and added that sports helped in maintaining health and also developed the skills of working in groups.
Urging the Police personnel to reserve time for fitness, he said that doing so would help them bring down the stress level and develop healthy lifestyle.
SP N. Vishnuvardhana, Additional SPs C. Mallick and Nagesh and other officials and staff were present.
