Mysuru: The City Police conducted cannon firing test for Dasara Jumbos for the first time this year. The test was conducted to acclimatise the elephants to the bombarding sound that come from cannons.
All 15 Dasara elephants and 24 horses were brought to the parking space near Kote Maramma Temple where the test was held. While 13 elephants stood still, Prashantha, Gopalaswamy and Vijaya were frightened. Forest officials had to tie Prashantha to a tree as he was scared the most.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, DCF V. Yedukondalu said that the today’s cannon firing was successful and added that couple of more tests would make the elephants familiar to the bombarding sound.
The Police fired four rounds using three cannons. On the day of Vijayadashami, a total of three rounds will be fired with seven cannons. A total of 35 Police personnel are being trained since the past one month for this feat. The cannons will be fired while the Police Band plays the National Anthem just as the Jumboo Savari begins from the Mysore Palace.
The Police had prohibited parking of tourist vehicles at the regular parking space next to Varaha Gate. Instead, arrangements were made at the Doddakere Maidan and near Amba Vilas Gate.
