Mysuru: Charvaka Social and Cultural Trust that had organised a conference at Maneyangala in Kalamandira premises has been blacklisted and steps will be taken to see that such incidents are not repeated, said Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep.
The conference was inaugurated by the organisers by consuming beef. This had led to a huge controversy questioning the Government for allowing such unhealthy practises in a place that is considered sacrosanct. In the light of this, DC Randeep spoke to the media on Monday and said that not only the organisation that had organised beef-eating had been blacklisted but the deposit money that the Trust had paid will be forfeited.
Beef-eating has been banned in Government buildings and even the officers in charge of such places have been warned to see that incidents do not recur, he said.
Will take precaution
Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H. Channappa told the media that he did not have a clue that beef-eating would be held here when the permission was given.
In the light of the violation by the Trust, it has been blacklisted. The decision has been taken in consultation with the higher officers. In future, only after finding out what sort of food is served, will Maneyangala premises be rented out, he said.
MP Pratap Simha reacts
MP Pratap Simha, expressing displeasure at the incident, has said that if Prof. Bhagawan and Prof. Mahesh Chandru Guru want to eat dog meat let them eat in their houses. But defiling a public institution by consuming beef that is banned is wrong and they have misused their positions. “The State Government should file a criminal case against them and the Governor should dismiss Prof. Guru, who is a professor at the University of Mysore,” he demanded.
