Mysuru: Even though it was a Government holiday today on account of Basava Jayanti, the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) Darpan Jain held a meeting with all Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) at his office here this morning.
During the meeting with the ROs and AROs of all 11 Constituencies in the district, the DC collected poll-related information from them and asked them to discharge their duties effectively.
No nomination
Today being a holiday, no nomination papers were received at the respective RO offices. But the entire staff is on duty and only nomination papers were being issued and clarifications pertaining to the election and filing of nomination papers were being provided by the staff at all the RO offices.
Nomination papers will not be received on Government holidays including Sundays.
Two file papers yesterday
Filing of nomination papers by the candidates for the ensuing Assembly polls, which began yesterday, saw two candidates filing their papers.
While Dr. K. Padmarajan filed his nomination papers as an Independent candidate from Chamundeshwari Constituency with the RO at Mini Vidhana Soudha, T. Basavaraju filed his nomination papers as a BJP Candidate from Varuna Constituency at the Nanjangud Taluk Office.
Meanwhile, Returning Officer T. Raghavendra, speaking to SOM said that though Basavaraju has filed his nomination papers he has not submitted the ‘B’ Form given by the party nor a separate affidavit. Returning Officers of all 11 Constituencies will receive nomination papers from candidates between 11 am and 3 pm.
